Parents work without worry
For the times you can't be there yourself, the YMCA supports your efforts to nurture your preschooler's healthy development. Well-trained staff provide safe, affordable, high-quality care so you an have peace of mind while you work to help your family succeed.

Preschool-age appropriate
YMCA preschool care builds on a child's natural desire to learn new things and become more self-reliant. Getting along with other children, sharing, taking turns, and working in a group are a natural part of playing games or learning a new craft. The YMCA is an exciting and challenging place, helping preschoolers stretch their skills in mind and body. It is also a safe, comfortable place where children build positive relationships with caring adults.

YMCA Goals for Child Care
The YMCA preschool-age child care program strives to support and strengthen families:
Improving communication among family members.
Increasing family members' ability to work and to play together.
Helping families share their values with each other.
Increasing their sense of community with other families.

The YMCA helps children develop to their fullest potential.
Our preschool programs promote children's growth and learning by:

  • Helping children to develop a healthy self-esteem.

  • Allowing children to learn through discovery and play.

  • Offering developmentally appropriate activities.

  • Providing space, equipment, and, most importantly, teachers that aid the children's development.

  • Allowing each child to develop a warm relationship with at least one adult.

  • Involving children in some aspects of planning their own activities.

  • Believing in the value of all children, and help children appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of their peers.

  • Involving children in their community to develop their social and living skills.

  • Encouraging expression of feelings, whether sad, joyful, or otherwise, and respond to those feelings.

  • Encouraging children to be involved in other YMCA programs such as swimming, parent-child programs, music, art and movement education.

FAMILY FOCUS
No matter how many hours children spend in child care, family is the most important structure in their lives. At the YMCA, good child care is good family care. Like all Y programs, child care is available to all, thanks to financial aid. Staff members are partners with parents and other caregivers, working together to help children grow healthy, happy and strong.
