AQUA CARDIO CHALLENGE

 

This co-ed class offers the vigorous work out you have been looking for in the pool! The class will use both the deep and shallow ends of the pool. We will get the water churning and your heart pumping! Bring your water bottle to keep you cool. We recommend water gloves and shoes.

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION AQUATIC PROGRAM

An aquatic exercise program for people with arthritis and other joint related problems. This program is designed to use the water to assist in exercise. It is adjustable to each person's level of mobility. Instructors certified through the Arthritis Foundation and the YMCA.

COMBO SPLASH

This class maximizes the fitness components of cardio respiratory conditioning, endurance muscle conditioning and flexibility. We will be utilizing a variety of equipment such as the aqua step and hydro fit system and fins. Aqua shoes and aqua gloves are recommended. Classes will be using shallow and deep ends of the pool.

DEEP WATER JOGGING

Deep-water walking/jogging is exercising in water that is deep enough to avoid contact with the bottom of the pool.This is a no impact program. All participants use floatation devices to allow for support and full range of motion. Deep-water workouts focus on aerobic and strength exercises. Ability to swim is not required.

FINS

FUNCTIONAL WATER WORKOUT

PARENT ORIENTATION

Parents who have children enrolled in a gym and swim class for the first time are strongly encouraged  to attend an orientation. It is designed to give parents necessary information about our preschool programs and to familiarize them with the YMCA facility and procedures. This informative session is for adults only!

SILVERSPLASH (Silver Sneakers)

This program is designed to enhance each individual's quality of life and daily function. SilverSplash utilizes the physical properties of water to improve agility, range of motion and cardiovascular conditioning. Participants will use the SilverSplash kickboard to develop strength, balance and coordination for a safe, fun and effective class. No swimming ability is required.

This is an opportunity to swim and exercise in the main and shallow pools. Half the pool is designated for lap swim and the other half pool is for an open swim. The last 20 minutes of the hour are spent playing beach ball volleyball in the pool!

YOUTH SWIMMING LESSONS

Children must be 6 years old and in first grade to participate in swim lessons. All levels include personal safety and personal growth issues for discussion, rescue skills, sports and gams along with stroke development to provide a holistic, lifelong enjoyment of the water. In order to move to the next level, youth must have passed previous level.

The Lake County YMCA will celebrate 36 years of resident camping at Camp Fitch this summer. Camp brochures and information sheets will be available at the Welcome Desk in January.

SUMMER DAY CAMP Ages 4 - 14

The YMCA will once again be offering Day Camp to preschool, youth and teens in the summer of 2011. Our camp is firmly focused on YMCA character development by instilling the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in everything we do. Campers can look forward to new camp activities, bigger theme days, and a wide variety of daily activity choices, beach day and terrific trips. Camp brochures, complete with pricing information and session dates, will be available in early 2011.



Certifications & Trainings

COMMUNITY CPR & FIRST AID

Earn your Community CPR certification and then come back the next day for your First Aid certification. Be prepared to save a life! Information will be posted at the YMCA and online in February for classes in early March.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING 16 & older

This is a YMCA National Lifeguarding Certification.  Participants must be 16 years the last day of the course. Participants must attend all classes and must pass the following prerequisite swim test:

  • 500 yards continuous swim of (100 yards each) Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Side Stroke (Right and Left Side) and inverted breaststroke kick.
  • Tread water, legs only for 2 minutes.
  •  Surface dive head first into 8-10 feet deep of water.  Swim underwater a distance greater than 15 feet.

Class includes Professional CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid Certifications, fanny
pack, whistle and CPR mask.  Must pass swim skill test to participate in class.  Attendance at all classes is mandatory.  Class meets two day a week.

AEROBICS (HI LO CARDIO)

Come join our HiLo community! One of the few cardio classes that still includes choreographed and freestyle movement. We sweat, laugh and encourage one another. Great fun! The instructor demonstrates both high and low impact versions of the same move. A well-balanced workout with 45 minutes of cardio followed by a stretch.

CARDIO CIRCUIT (SilverSneaker Fitness Class)

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is available to set equipment on and for aid in stretching and relaxation exercises.

CARDIO JAM WITH A KICK

 

It’s kickboxing with a twist. This class continues to “pack a punch” by combining new moves with simple movement patterns including punches, kicks and blocks. The emphasis is on good form, because the better the form the more intense the workout. But the energy will come from you and upbeat music which will “kick” your fitness to a new level!

MATRIX

The “matrix” approach to conditioning incorporates the three planes and levels of motion and most muscle groups. This class is a challenging total body workout. It is functional training at it's finest. For anyone who wants to push the envelope and move to the next level.

MSROM MUSCULAR STRENGTH & RANGE OF MOVEMENT

 

An equipment based, multi-level total body conditioning class in which participants use hand-held weights, elastic tubing and balls. The class format includes a warm-up, range of motion stretches, work with resistance tools, cool down and final stretch, relaxation segment. A chair is used. Class participants are seated with nominal standing. Get fit, have fun and make friends!

NUTRITION COUNSELING

Individual counseling sessions are available with our very own Registered Dietitian. One hour for an initial assess-ment and ½ hour for follow-up sessions. The number of sessions required will be based on your individual needs and goals. Our dietitian will make arrangements to meet with you at a convenient time for both of you. PERSONAL TRAINING

 

This is one-on-one personal fitness education. Our trainer will meet with you for 1, 2, 3 or 4 one hour sessions. The first session can include the YMCA battery of fitness tests, and serious conversation about your fitness goals. PILATES MAT WORK

Pilates was developed in the early 1900’s to strengthen and lengthen the muscles of the body, particularly the core muscles. Basic mat work techniques will be taught, with an emphasis on safety. As your body develops strength, the exercises become tougher, you become stronger and firmer. There is more to it than you think! This is definitely not a drop in class. Dress for an air-conditioned room.

This group of teens enjoys activities that range from volunteering in the community or in the YMCA, leadership training or just plain hanging out together. Leaders Club is a service organization which builds self-esteem and a good foundation of values. We do fun-filled activities, take a few trips and do service projects.

Another opportunity to spend a "pumptastic" evening with your family at the Y! Take a dip with our pumpkins! While in the pool, pick the pumpkin of your choice for your very own! Then you'll dry off and move to the Multipurpose Room where you can decorate your pumpkin with paint. Concessions will be available. Your pumpkin is yours to take!
